Welcome 2008!
If I had been able to visit my hometown, I’d have celebrated New Year with a big feast and lit firecrackers or watched fireworks. Alas, I was at work on a holiday until 7PM–the curfew imposed by the office guard who sat faithfully by the work area to make sure security was intact.
I thought of watching the revelry on Ayala too. Every year, event organizers put up rock concerts and fireworks displays in CBD. But I was too tired and didn’t care anymore, so I stayed put and watched “101 Hottest Celebrity Bodies” of 2006 on Lifestyle Nework. The Lifestyle channel moved from ch. 47 to 52 on Sky Cable at 12:00 AM today. Angelina Jolie and David Beckham shared the #1 spot. Feast was composed of lime-flavored Tostitos dipped in salsa and washed down with Coke Light. I can’t believe that I had even done better in 2007 when I was able to whip out a decent dinner.
Either people were not really into firecrackers anymore or I just happened to be living in a really quiet pocket of Makati City. Out of over a hundred households at Makati Prime, I could count those that lit up their super lolos and kuwitis in one hand. But to savor what was left of the New Year’s celebration, here’s a really dark video recording of the anemic fireworks that I could capture from the window of my fourth floor apartment. I’m sure things looked better somewhere else.
May 2008 bring everyone prosperity, happiness, good health, lots of love and millions of reasons to celebrate the next 366 days.
